Road and soil stabilisers

Igugu Industries supplies road and soil stabilisers for base, sub-base, gravel and in-situ material: a chemical road stabiliser, a chemical soil stabiliser, SS60 stabilisation grade for BSM and emulsion-treated bases, and a polymer-modified bitumen stabiliser, in bulk or drums depending on the product and delivered to all nine provinces. Tell us the material and the layer, and we recommend the product and the dosage.

Chemical road stabiliser

Specification
To your project specification and pavement design; the dose is set from laboratory tests on the job’s material
Application
Mixed in by recycler or grader, then shaped and compacted
Supplied as
Depends on the product: CRP88 in drums, flowbins or bulk; the bitumen stabiliser in bulk or 200 L drums; the stabilisation grade in bulk by tanker; RoadBinder’s pack confirmed on the quote
Technical support
Product selection, dosage and application guidance

Products for this job

  • RoadBinder (MSBT), for marginal G9 to G5 soils. Laboratory results: UCS above 1,200 kPa.
  • CRP88, a co-polymer soil stabiliser that also suppresses dust, at 2.5–20 L/m³.

Where it is used

  • Marginal soils, G9 to G5.
  • Roads, platforms and yards built on in-situ soil.
  • Soil stabilisation that also has to hold the dust down.

Also written as: soil stabiliser, soil stabilisation, chemical soil stabiliser, polymer soil stabiliser, non-traditional soil treatment agent, in-situ soil stabilisation, platform stabilisation.

To quote, send us

  • The area and depth (m³).
  • The soil description and laboratory results, or samples.
  • The mixing equipment and the water source.
  • The planned use: road, platform or yard.

Bitumen emulsion stabilisation grade (60% anionic) for BSM and emulsion-treated bases

SS60 stabilisation grade: a 60% anionic slow-set emulsion mixed into base material, usually by recycler, to make bitumen-stabilised (BSM) or emulsion-treated base layers. It arrives in bulk by tanker, coupled to the recycler.

Grade
60% anionic slow-set emulsion (SS60 stabilisation grade)
Specification
SANS 4001-BT3, and your project specification
Mixing
Usually by recycler. Test the breaking rate with the job’s aggregate, filler and water first
Diluting
With clean water, adding the water to the emulsion
Supplied as
Bulk, by tanker coupled to the recycler
Technical support
Product selection, dosage and application guidance
Documents
Data sheet and safety data sheet on request

Where it is used

  • Stabilisation of base course material.
  • In-situ recycling with emulsion (BSM-emulsion).
  • Emulsion-treated base (ETB).
  • Diluted, for slushing bitumen-stabilised layers.

Anionic emulsion does not suit acidic aggregates. For these, a cationic emulsion such as the cationic stable grade (CSS 60) is often considered instead.

Also written as: ETB, emulsion-treated base, BSM-emulsion, bitumen stabilised material, bituminous stabilising agent, SS60 stabilisation grade, emulsion stabilisation, slushing.

To quote, send us

  • The length × width × depth (m³) of the layer.
  • The parent rock or aggregate type, and the laboratory results.
  • The emulsion percentage from the mix design, or ask us for help with it.
  • The recycler details, the tankers needed per day and the water source.

Polymer-modified bitumen stabiliser for in-situ materials

A stabilising material of polymers, bitumen and surfactants that turns in-situ material into hydrophobic, durable and flexible base layers. It puts material that would otherwise be unusable to work, which cuts cost and environmental impact.

Type
Proprietary, non-traditional stabilising agent: polymers, bitumen and surfactants
Specification
To your project specification; the dose is set from a mix design
Application
Mixed into the in-situ material, then compacted
Supplied as
Bulk or 200 L drums
Technical support
Product selection, dosage and application guidance
Documents
Data sheet and safety data sheet on request

Where it is used

  • Base layers built from in-situ material.
  • Roads where the existing material would otherwise be unusable.

Also written as: polymer-modified bitumen stabiliser, bitumen stabilising material, polymer bitumen stabiliser, non-traditional stabilising agent, in-situ stabilisation, base stabilisation.

To quote, send us

  • The layer dimensions (m³).
  • The material description and laboratory results.
  • The recycler details.

Choosing a stabiliser

Which stabiliser for which material?

The material decides. Send the material test results, the layer and the specification, and we recommend the product and the dosage.

Marginal G9 to G5 soils, gravel-to-sealed upgrades, platforms
RoadBinder (MSBT) soil stabilisation
Unbound gravel roads: moisture damage, weak support, dust
CRP88 polymer soil stabiliser
In-situ base layers with a polymer-modified bitumen
Polymer-modified bitumen stabiliser
Priming the stabilised base before surfacing
Prime coat and tack coat
Dust on gravel roads that are not being stabilised
Dust suppression

Technical support

Technical support comes with the supply: product selection, dosage and application guidance for the job and its specification. Tell us the job, the material and the specification, and we recommend what to use and how to apply it.

Questions buyers ask

Questions about road and soil stabilisers.

What is the difference between the road stabiliser and the soil stabiliser?

Igugu Industries’ chemical road stabiliser is mixed into in-situ or imported base, sub-base and gravel, then shaped and compacted, and works through road recyclers. The chemical soil stabiliser improves weak, moisture-sensitive or marginal soil, so the material already on site can be reused.

Can you advise which stabiliser suits our material?

Yes. Send Igugu Industries the material test results (grading, PI, CBR or UCS), the layer and the specification, and we recommend the product and the dosage with the quote. Data sheets and safety data sheets come on request.

Do you have a product for marginal G9 to G5 material?

Yes. RoadBinder (MSBT), from Igugu Industries’ mining range, turns marginal G9 to G5 material into load-bearing layers, including for gravel-to-sealed road upgrades. Its laboratory results show UCS above 1,200 kPa.

Do you supply emulsion for BSM or emulsion-treated bases?

Yes. Igugu Industries supplies SS60 stabilisation grade, a 60% anionic emulsion to SANS 4001-BT3, in bulk by tanker for BSM-emulsion and emulsion-treated base layers. Send the layer volume, the aggregate type and the mix design.

Do you supply a polymer stabiliser?

Yes. CRP88, from Igugu Industries, is a co-polymer soil stabiliser and dust suppressant that binds fine and coarse aggregate into a water-resistant stabilised layer, at 2.5–20 L/m³ for stabilisation.
